yard slug

A slug (locomotive accessory) designed for switching; it has a low body, and no cab, in order to allow an engineer or driver in a powered unit to the rear to see past it.

yarnover

A technique in which the yarn is passed over the right-hand needle. In general, the new loop is knitted on the next row, either by itself (producing a hole) or together with an adjacent stitch.

yem

A Vietnamese bodice with a halterneck and a V-shaped bottom worn by women on the torso, originally as an underbodice and now also as an outer garment.

yo-yo

A cloth rosette formed by gathering the outside edge of a circle of fabric in toward the centre using a running stitch.
